This role will work with the Assistant Dean of Health and Wellbeing to manage student cases, create action plans for students, triage concerns, and make appropriate referrals to campus resources to support the wellness and success of students of concern. This role will be co-located within Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS).DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESClinical Case Management, Referrals, and Support ServicesProvides inclusive, compassionate, and student-centered clinical case management and linkage support to students who engage with CAPS to appropriate clinical providers and holistic resources, including medical providers and social assistance programs.Provides regular phone, virtual, or in-person student case management meetings.Works with students to develop student-centered care plans, which may include employing various psychosocial and behavioral techniques (e.g., behavioral activation, problem-solving, goal-setting, motivational interviewing, harm-reduction techniques, and risk assessment) and provides appropriate linkage support follow-up to students.Tracks students who still need to follow up with treatment recommendations and works with CAPS providers to determine the need for additional clinical follow-up and observed behaviors to follow recommended treatment plans.Encourages and assists students to effectively use on-campus support services, including, but not limited to, Student Health Services and the Care Center.Works closely with the CAPS clinical team, assessing student needs based on therapists' brief triage assessment, crisis management support, intake assessment outcomes, and/or clinical recommendations from students' individual and/or group therapy participation.Connects with students to gauge interest in CAPS services and refer students to CAPS intake assessment as appropriate.In connection with providing linkage support services to students engaging with CAPS services, contacts outside agencies and providers, hospitals, University Police, and emergency contacts when necessary.Maintains confidential student records and tracks student progress in electronic medical records system.Responds to requests for and actively participates in case consultation questions from CAPS mental health professionals and campus partners, including but not limited to participating in CAPS clinical consultation meetings.Consult with campus partners on supporting linkage efforts for students facing basic needs, insecurities, or other distress-related distress that impact personal and academic success.Consults regularly with Health & Wellbeing cluster partners, providing updates on CAPS services and off-campus provider resources such as psychiatry and medication management.Serves as a point of contact for campus community members seeking consultation and advice about mental health services available to students on and off campus.Assists students seeking to withdraw for mental health reasons by coordinating with providers and campus partners.Provide regular updates to CAPS staff regarding linkage options, partnership changes, and resource opportunities available to students.Case Management Linkage and Support SystemDevelop a research-based sustainable linkage and support system for students to effectively access appropriate clinical providers beyond CAPS.Develop relationships with off-campus providers, agencies, and allied professionals to build a functional network of support for students.Host networking events for local providers and campus partners to help provide a range of CAPS services, show students how to connect with CAPS, and how to refer to appropriate providers.Develop and maintain a mental health resource guide to be used by CAPS and other key campus partners.Develops and delivers specialized curriculum and training programs as requested by campus departments based on their needs, departmental trends, and experiences with students.Plans and implements publicity/marketing to promote Counseling & Psychological Services.Coordinates programs to support at-risk students, including exploring new and innovative ways to engage students, faculty, and staff.Assessment & EvaluationAssisted in collecting assessment data and preparing reports and presentations on aggregate Case Management usage data, including services provided and students served.Assists in initiating and contributing to efforts to assess student linkage outcomes and develop strategies for improved services, programs, and communication.Assists in assessing outcomes and developing strategies for improved services, programs, and communications.Assists with CAPS training program modules that help unlicensed and early career professionals develop effective approaches to supporting case management and linkage efforts.Other supervisor.Supports the Division of Student Affairs on collaborative initiatives supporting and advocating for students.QUALIFICATIONSEquivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.The following knowledge and abilities, as well as those listed at lower levels in the Student Services Professional series, are required for appointment to this classification. Thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge. General knowledge of the policies, practices and activities of Student Services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned; general knowledge of the principles, problems and methods of public administration, including organizational, personnel and fiscal management; general knowledge of advanced statistical and research methods. Ability to carry out very complex assignments without detailed instructions; advise students individually or in groups on varied and complex matters; determine the appropriate course of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals and groups in personal interactions of a sensitive nature; reason logically and analyze and solve organizational and operating problems of one or several program areas; plan, coordinate and initiate actions necessary to implement administrative or group decisions or recommendations; analyze and define complex organizational, policy or procedural problems, collect and evaluate data, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; understand the roles and responsibilities of others and to gauge relationships accordingly by taking into account the variety of the interrelationships, motivations and goals of the members of the organization served; and establish and maintain effective, cooperative and harmonious working relationships in circumstances which involve the denial of requests or the necessity to persuade others to accept a different point of view. Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent to four years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems. A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
