Type of Appointment: Full-Time, ProbationaryCollective Bargaining Unit: California State University Employees Union (CSUEU) – Unit 5Job Classification: Lead CustodianClassification Salary Range: $3,347 - $5,498 per monthAnticipated Hiring Amount:$3,347 – $4,056 per monthWork Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00am-5:00pmRecruitment Closing Date: February 20th, 2024THE DEPARTMENTAs a department within the Division of Student Affairs, University Housing Services (UHS) is responsible for delivering a comprehensive student experience, which includes operations in residential life, business operations, facilities management, conference services, and information systems. The department has 50 full-time professional staff persons and is complemented by a student staff of approximately 200.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESLead and oversee a staff of up to 12 custodians and up to 10 student assistants during work shifts, engage in custodial duties, and does related work as required. Supports the University as it relates to policies and processes for COVID and other infectious diseases.Conducts inspections and reports cleaning problems to custodians and/or reports damage to the maintenance staff, inputs work orders on the computer. Assist with budgets and monitors all supplies.Provides training for the custodians in the proper use of equipment, materials, and cleaning techniques.Inspects and oversees all aspects of the deep cleaning contractors and all campus vendors. Coordinates all vendor work within portfolio.Provide an ongoing work schedule for work, reports absences of the custodian, fill out incident reports, and direct to the Health center when necessary.Provides input to the Associate Director, Facilities regarding the performance of subordinates for the purpose of evaluations.Participates in staff meetings, and weekly leadership meetings, and serves on department committees.Serves as the department point of contact during emergencies and in the absence of the Associate Director.QUALIFICATIONSEquivalent to one to two years of related custodial experience and providing on-the-job training and leadership to others. Some positions may require possession of a valid California driver's license.Working knowledge of the methods, chemicals, and equipment used in custodial work and of the safety and sanitation practices and measures; and effective lead/supervisory practices and techniques. Ability to provide lead work direction, including training others in proper work methods and safety and providing feedback on work performance; read and write English at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; use computers to track work orders and order supplies and materials; establish, promote and maintain cooperative work relationships with others; and analyze situations and take appropriate action. Preferred QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalentExperience working with the college-age population, works well with students and professional staff. The ability to accept change regularly in work shift schedules and duties in order to fill in for absent custodians, building emergencies, and participation in regular staff meetings and committee work. The ability to work occasional weekends and evenings to meet departmental needs.Ability to use programs and software, such as The Maintenance Authority, TMA, to print work orders and run reports.Thorough knowledge of the proper use and safety of cleaning chemicals.Ability to report to and work closely with the Executive Director of University Housing Services, Director of Housing Operations, Assistant Director of Business Services, Director of Residence Life, and Associate Director of Housing Facilities.Ability to analyze data, reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations to the Associate Director of Housing Facilities.Participate in and contribute to department and vision meetings, training, conferences, and interviews.Clearly express ideas and recommendations orally. Write clear and concise reports.
